I had also purchased an I pad just before the conference. This class sparked my interest in video making as a means to share Family History plus I had just purchased the "i movie" app. I have posted my first attempt at a video. It may be hard to believe it took me all summer to do this. It wasn't so hard, but I had many interruptions plus had to figure it all out.

This first video is, "Noman's Lake, Western Australia. It is a short story about the early settlers of Noman's Lake, specifically my great grandparents, John Lee and Sarah Ann Lever. Here is the link: (If the link doesn't work, just search on the title at You Tube).
There have been several thousand visitors which I would have not envisioned at the beginning. It's true: Google can find everything. The best of all is a cousin from Australia who found the blog and who I now correspond with regularly. She has sent me much information and is very willing to search Australia records for me.

The whole two years worth of postings have been just on one line, "Lee" which is my father's paternal line. About the time I think all my information is posted, I come across something else or think of something. It feels so good to have this information out there for all to use an enjoy. Here is a summary of the past postings: (not quite in order, but the people are in order)
That doesn't exactly match up becasue the marriage date of John and Eliza is in 1837. Also, as I look at the birth records of the John Lee/Eliza Jones that are in my possession, there is not a Margaret Ann among those records. This appears to be a mistake and I apologize for posting it. Please disregard Margaret Ann as a child in this family until I can look further into this. The children of John & Eliza are: Alice, Eliza, William, Hannah, John, James, Celia, and Hugh. The links below are to their birth records. I apologize for so many links, but my computer program is acting up and this is the best for the time being.
The previous few posts have been about John Lee and Sarah Ann Lever the parents of Thomas Henry Lee (Henry Lee-Thomas). The next generation back is another John Lee with Eliza Jones who are the father and mother of the previous John Lee. I am posting their Family Group Record that shows them as husband and wife with their children. I am also posting their marriage certificate. The credit for all of these goes back to Ruby Ellen Thredgold, my grandmother and wife of Henry Lee-Thomas. She did amazing things at gathering so much information in the days of mail via boats and limited funds to purchase copies of certificates. She definately had her heart turned to her previous generations. Here is the link to the family group sheet and marriage certificate.
A relataive from Australia sent me these articles which were publihsed in an Australian Newpaper, "Advertiser." These were published at the time of the death of Henry Lee-Thomas. They are worth taking a look at. Here is the link:
I promise to get busy on my blog becasue I have much more to share on this and other family lines. MMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09083576067089109649noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333859917237036572.post-33405398889842621112012-08-12T17:39:00.000-06:002012-08-12T17:39:21.270-06:00Months of AbsenceIt has been months since posting anything to my blog. Although there is a good excuse (sold home, downsized and moved to a condo), I have missed posting and participating in the more important things of Family History. I'm very much ready to get back to my Family History work and have had some nudging in the past couple of weeks.

First Nudge: I was contacted by a second cousin in Australia who is related to me via Ruby Thredgold (wife of Henry Lee-Thomas) and Ruby's mother, Ellen Prewett Thredgold. This is a cousin on the Prewett line. I am very excited about this contact because this is a line in which I've previously not had any contact. This lady has visited by blog and left many comments, but I did not know her email and how she was related until few days ago. I so much appreciate hearing from her.

Second Nudge: In the new area where I live, there is a very active group of the "Daughters of Utah Pioneers." They have urged me to join with them and I plan to do that this Fall. My mother (Florence Christensen) comes from Utah Pioneers and she was once a member of this group. Perhaps I will learn some much needed things on this family from Denmark.

All I need to do now is help get our garage organized, hang a few pictures on the walls, and I should be good to settle in for the winter and get busy again.MMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09083576067089109649noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333859917237036572.post-4657759920536980822012-03-23T19:49:00.000-06:002012-03-23T19:49:44.812-06:00John Lee & Sarah Lever: Family Group RecordBack in the Family History saddle, at least for this evening. I thought this all would make more sense now if I attached a Family Group Record of John Lee and Sarah Ann Lever. This lists their children and all of the birth certificates are in the two previous posts. Remember that she gave her name as Sarah Tysoe when she married John Lee. Her mother was apparently married twice and had Sarah from the previous marriage to George Lever. This is the current thinking and, when I post certificates of her mother, Sarah Thornton, it will be more obvious why this conclusion has been drawn. Here is the link to the Family Group Record:
Life is full of interruptions and there have been other things requiring my attention.

I made a mistake on my previous post. I stated that John and Sarah Ann had 12 children. There were actually 11 children. In this group of certificates that I am adding today, there is a death certificate of Madeline Lee. I thought it was a birth certificate at first. It is mingled in with the births so watch for it. These are the remaining birth records of the children of John Lee and Sarah Ann Lever. Here is the link to these records:
One of my Blog followers, added some information via a comment which I will share. It is the death notice of Thomas Henry Lee that was published in Western Austraia. Notice that he was referred to as "Harry." My grandmother Ruby referred to him as "Harry" much of the time.
As a reminder, these are the parents of Thomas Henry Lee (Henry Lee-Thomas). The first six brith records are posted here. These children are the siblings of Thomas Henry Lee (Henry Lee-Thomas). Grandma Ruby Thredgold (Henry's wife) is the one responsible to these records. I didn't want to post too much at once so the other six will be forthcoming. Here is the link:
It was another marvelous experience. It fries the brain, but gives new energy to the work of Family History. Here I go again with more goals than time to accomplish. The idea for this blog came about last year from this conference and has been much, much more successful and appreciated than I had envisioned. It is feeling good to get my treasure chest in "The Cloud" for every one to see and use. I have plans to start another blog to use as a research log (another idea gained from this year's conference).

One of the main topics for this year's conference was "Cloud Computing." It seems as if everything is going in the direction of online server companies for data collections and programs. The software companies are busy getting their programs ready for online servers so we can have our data and everything else backed up in a place (cloud) which isn't subject to so much human error and mechanical mistakes. This is the accepted direction in the computer world so us old folks just need to "get used to it." I heard one person comment that maybe if we get everything in "the clouds", our ancestors can find it more easily and help us more. Good thought!

Advantages: Our online data can be easily synced to other computers with just a click. I have two computers and the data I select to be on both computers is automatically synced when saved to my cloud. (My cloud company happens to be Dropbox.com). The links on my blog posts are another example of this. These links to pictures and documents are in the cloud (Dropbox) and are there for you with just a click. There is nothing to send back and forth or to get lost on a CD of thumb drive. I have recently shared many recent photos with my children via "the cloud". I just put multiple pictures in a shared folder, share the folder with them, instantly they had the pictures. This only took a few minutes to accomplish. This is all amazing!!! Love it!! If you want to learn more about "dropbox" look at "favorite websites" in the heading of this blog.MMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09083576067089109649noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333859917237036572.post-983161513476252372012-01-19T14:19:00.000-07:002012-01-19T14:19:43.192-07:00Marriage of John Lee and Sarah Ann Lever TysoeHere's where the tricky part of this line comes along. (This could be a little more tricky than Thomas Henry Lee changing his name to Henry Lee-Thomas). This concerns the marriage of Sarah Ann to John Lee. The link here is to their marriage certificate.

You will notice that the name for Sarah Ann is, "Sarah Ann Tysoe." It appears that Sarah Ann's mother (Sarah Thornton) was married twice: first to George Lever, and second to Joseph Tysoe. Most of Sarah Thornton's children were born of the marriage to Joseph Tysoe. Sarah Thornton had two children (Sarah Ann and Joseph) with George Lever and seven children with Joseph Tysoe. There is no proof that Joseph Tysoe actually adopted Sarah Ann and Joseph, but Sarah Ann gives Tysoe as her name when she married John Lee. This two marriage idea on Sarah Thornton is the consensus of the family (in Australia too) with the documents which we have currently. This could all change if future different proof comes to light. Anyone who would like to take this on?

In the future I will post many certificates from the John Lee/Sarah Ann Lever/Tysoe family and the Joseph Tysoe/Sarah Thornton family. For now just enjoy this certificate, study the Lee pedigree chart so that you can follow this along. Here is the link to the marriage certificate.
She was born as Sarah Ann Lever, daughter of George Lever and Sarah Thornton. Notice on the birth certificate that the parents were married "At Sea". Could be on the way to Australia??? Also, that there were two other children listed as living at the time of this birth. It is believed that George Lever had been married before and these children were his by a previous marriage. I have no certificates to back this up. There is also a link to a picture of Sarah Ann which she sent to her grandson, Maurice. Also, there is a picture of John Lee and Sarah Ann. The young man in the picture with John and Sarah is Clarence Leslie Lee. He is the brother of Thomas Henry Lee and the father of Margaret Lee Haag (the relative from Australia who found Steve and I a few years back). It's only December 31st, but a good time to start the 2012 resolution.
It might be a good idea to go back now and look at the "Lee Line Pedigree Chart" found on the top of blog in a heading. It is time to move back one generation to John Lee who is the father of Thomas Henry Lee (Henry Lee-Thomas).
There's some opportunity for confusion with this line so I'm going to move slowly through it and explain things as I go. The link below is the birth certificate for John Lee. It is interesting, as you will see, how much information my grandma Ruby had gathered on this family. She had limited income and had to do all of this via letters going and coming by boat. It appears by some of her correspondence that she actually paid for some of the research. Amazing!!
I sent him some examples of the photos in my possession and he wishes to have the family portrait of Henry, Ruby, and my dad. (It is in one of the earlier posts). He says it is a beautiful portrait. The photo is in very good condition considering that it has to be near 95 years old. It does have Henry in his uniform. This is a great way to memorialize and honor Henry, Ruby, and Maurice. The Australia project does have some guidelines for me to follow in scanning the pictures and they must be sent to them on a DVD. It may take a few weeks before this picture actually appears in their collection. I will let you all know when it is there.
Yes, it is very interesting where this Family History journal takes you. I would have never thought that I would be contributing to such a collection. I wonder what lies ahead??? I need to get busy so that some more of the photos and documents I have can be shared with all of you great family and other interested persons.MMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09083576067089109649noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333859917237036572.post-43025370963498715982011-11-13T17:50:00.001-07:002011-11-13T17:52:03.971-07:00Henry Lee-Thomas: More InformationAbout the time I think it's time to move on to another family, I learn a bit more to share about the current people. I had a response from my previous post telling me that the Australian War Memorial might be interested in the photos that Henry Lee-Thomas sent home from WW1. I've been to that Web Site just now and they do have records of Henry and I went on to find a picture of the cemetery in Belgium where he is buried and some more war records. The two web sites are: Simply search on his name.
http://www.awm.gov.au (war memorial)
http://www.cwgc.org/ (grave information)
I have sent an e-mail to the Australian War Memorial to see if they would like copies of the photo albums. Amazing where this Family History journey takes you.

P.S. One of my daughters asked me when I was going to post more of the tape recorded history of Maurice Lee-Thomas. That which I have posted is all there is to that recording. Sad, isn't it? So now let's all get busy on keeping a journal or some record of our lives.MMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09083576067089109649noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333859917237036572.post-23296239246416588972011-11-02T16:10:00.001-06:002011-11-02T16:20:35.750-06:00Henry Lee-Thomas: World War 1 PhotosHenry Lee-Thomas sent home two small photo albums and a post card from World War 1. These have fallen in to my hands and are in unusually good shape considering their age. These are the original albums which were mailed home in 1915 and 1916. That makes them almost 100 years old. I have just scanned them today and want to share with everyone. The first album was sent to Myrtle Moore (Myrtle Thredgold) who was Henry's sister-in-law and Ruby Thredgold's sister. The second album was to a "Miss Pickering." I have no idea who this person was. The last two photos are of a post card which Henry sent to his wife and baby. (Ruby and Maurice). The post card caption says, "The Strafer Strafed." I looked up "Strafer" on "google" and found the following definition:

Verb: To attack (ground troops for example) with gun or cannon from a low flying aircraft.
Noun: An atttack of machine gun or cannon fire from low flying aircraft.
Common World War 1 slogan.

This will make sense when you see the last photo. Here is the link to this group of photos:
We recently spent a week of relaxing in Kentucky where the opportunity presented itself for some pictures and Family History organizing. Some more picture of Maurice were discovered which you all may be interested in.

The first two pictures are of Maurice with his two children when they were very young. The picture with the baby girl (me) would have been 1944. The other picture with the boy (Steve) and girl (me) looks like about 1948. Here's the link to those pictures:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10071252/Maurice%20%26%20Florence%20with%20Mary%20Margaret%201944.pdf

The next group is three pictures. The first is a picture of Maurice & Florence in front of their home at 511 Seventh Street in Ogden, Utah. My best guess is the mid 1960's. The second picture is Maurice & Florence in San Francisco in 1940. The third picture is the prize winner: Maurice, Florence, Steve, Mary M., Grandma Christensen in front of the Maddox Restaurant in Perry, Utah. My best estimate would be 1953/4.
Here they are: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10071252/Family%20at%20Maddox.pdf

These next ones are scans of two post cards that Maurice received when he was in Australia and his Aunt (Myrtle Thredgold Moore, sister of Ruby Thredgold) sent them to him from Ogden, Utah. They were sent to Ada Street in Adelaide where Maurice was living at the time. The date on these is 1915/16. We had met my cousin and his wife when we were in Australia three years ago. Years ago, one of the Australian's on the Lee side had been searching for my brother and I for many years. She knew that our grandfather, who was killed in WWI, had a wife and son who immigrated to America. We were the only branch of the Lee's of which there was little known in Australia. After much searching, she found us and started communication. Over the years she passed away and her family history information fell into the hands of Alan. He then reached me and we started communication concerning family history and getting acquainted via e-mail. My husband and I had the privilege of meeting and staying with Alan and his wife Carol when we visited Australia. Now they have paid us a visit for which I am very thankful. We are working together to pull this history together. I know that my father, Maurice and grandfather, Henry must have been thrilled at this opportunity Alan and I had to be together. We're all "Rellies."
He had been attending the Los Angeles Temple with his wife Florence. They had finished their work at the temple and were packing their bags to return to their home in Visalia, California. Maurice was putting bags in the car, when he collapsed and never recovered. He was taken to UCLA Medical Center where he died. The cause of death was a heart attack. Florence was watching him from their motel window and witnessed his collapse. Florence reported that most deaths in Los Angeles were considered homiscides until proved otherwise. He took some time and frustration to get his body released from UCLA.

He had two funerals. The first was in Visalia, California where he was residing at the time of his death. The second funeral was held in Ogden, Utah where he had spent most of his life since immigrating to America and where he and Florence had purchase burial plots in the Ogden City Cemetery. The link below will take you to his Obituary, funeral programs, and death certifciate. The second link is a picture of the cemetery where he is buried along the side of his wife, Florence Christensen.
Not only was it a week of inspiration and learning, but it was spent with my wonderful daughter, Marie. We spent from July 25 to July 29 at BYU's annual Family History Conference. This year's theme was, "Strengthening Ties that Bind, Families Together Forever." We heard from keynote speakers, Dennis Simmons, (Church Authority) D. Joshua Taylor, (NEHGS) and Ransom Love, from Family Search. They were all amazing. Marie and I took classes on Power Point, Excel, Preserving, Tracking English, Ancestors and every class taught by Joshua Taylor. He is amazing!

The car gets parked when we arrive and not used again until we are ready to leave. We walk everywhere and spend our evenings out browsing around the campus. Each building is a story of it's own with displays, artifacts, and hours of browsing possibilities. I could stay on that campus for days. Of course, we ate at the Creamery two times and the Brick Oven once. It's a good thing we do much walking.MMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09083576067089109649noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333859917237036572.post-59076514063162873892011-07-20T17:09:00.003-06:002011-07-20T17:09:00.306-06:00Maurice Lee-Thomas: PhotosHere are a four photos of Maurice. Note the snow in the background on the two pictures which I believe to be either prior or soon after his marriage. The picture was taken in Ogden, Utah at the home of Florence Christensen's parents (Andrew and Mary), 529 Seventh Street. The picture by the old car was taken at the same place, but the snow is gone. He looks to be close to the same age so probably taken in the mid 1930's. The railroad picture is an unknown date. I need to find out when he started working for the railroad and that will give a clue. Hope everyone enjoys these pictures. I have a few more to be forthcoming. Here is the link:
My Blog was featured in the Salt Lake City Desert News on Thursday, July 14. The lady who wrote the article called me one day, said she wanted to do a newspaper article on blogs, and had found mine. It caught her interest. I really couldn't believe it. Anyway , she interviewed me and here is a link to the article.
It has been a family tradition now for the past 20 years to attend this annual event. It is a very inspiring patriotic program and has become such a tradition that we may as well cancel Christmas as this summer event. Each year during the fireworks display, the song from Neil Diamond, "Coming to America" is played. That always brings tears to my eyes as I think about my ancestors who "traveled far" and suffered much hard ship to come to America. It took much sacrifice for them to leave their families and everything familiar to come to a new land and life was not easy for them even after they arrived in America. How grateful I am to all of them. I love America and am comforted to know that our country has a divine destiny and that righteousness and America will prevail.

From Ruby Thredgold's journal I quote: " It was a great undertaking to sell up everything and make preparations to move so many of us across the seas. . . .I could spend hours and many pages writing, telling of the sacrifice and hard work. It was going to take a lot of money to get us across the huge basin of water.
After selling all we had , and nothing left to manage with, we lived our last six weeks in Australia." They sailed on the U. S. Sierra. "It was 11:00 am on the 1st day of November 1930 that we sailed out of the beautiful Sydney Harbor into the great Pacific Ocean. We arrived in San Francisco on the 20th of November 1930."

You can listen to Neil Diamond's "Coming to America." on "youtube."MMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09083576067089109649noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333859917237036572.post-19311764940385492102011-06-25T21:11:00.001-06:002011-06-25T21:16:07.871-06:00Maurice Reginald Lee-Thomas: Personal HistoryMaurice had started his personal history by tape recording. The recordings were left along with the Family History that was saved and passed on to his children. The recording was made in 1979, he died in 1983, and the tapes were transcribed in 2006. It was 23 years from the time of his death until this recording was transcribed. It was quite an experience for me to transcribe this tape and hear the voice which I hadn't heard in 23 years. It is amazing that these recordings were still in good condition after so many years. Here is a link to the transcription.
They were married in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They were married by Heber J. Grant who was President of the Church at that time. Notice that Heber J. Grant's signature is on the marriage certificate and the marriage license. In this link there is also a copy of a hand written invitation to their wedding reception. It would be 99% sure that this was my mother's (Florence Christensen's) handwriting. The place of the reception was at 529 Seventh Street. This was the home of Florence and her parents. It was also the place where Maurice and Florence lived after their marriage. The link below will take you to this marriage information.
